One main storyline running throughout the title? Nah, Activision is pouring ten threads (nine not from the movie) into the game and drawing in comic book rogues such as the Scorpion, the Lizard and a couple of other big names that I can't mention yet.
Incredibly generic citizens who wander the streets at all hours of the day and don't react to the epic battles that are being waged before them? They've been replaced. The amount of traffic and sidewalk-stomping New Yorkers will be dependent on the time of day, and if Spider-Man has to take the battle to the streets, expect the crowds to react.

May was looking rather dry with only a few worthwhile PlayStation 3 titles coming out. Spider-Man 3 and MLB '07: The Show were the only big titles due for release.
However, things are looking up. Both Heavenly Sword and Lair have been posted as May releases on the official UK PlayStation site. The current UK (and European) PlayStation 3 site was launched on March 23rd to coincide with the PS3 launch. We're hoping the release window of May for both of these titles isn't just a placeholder. So far, no other regional sites have been updated to include such a date.

Sony Computer Entertainment America PR boss Dave Karraker disputed Kreher’s PS3 notions when contacted by Next-Gen. “PS3 just had the biggest launch in European history,” Karraker wrote in an e-mail. “In the UK, it nearly beat the launches of both Wii and Xbox 360 combined. In North America, we outpaced the original PlayStation and PS2 in sales during the first three months—both of those systems went on to sell over 100 million.
“Given this, the assumption that PS3 might be fading seems not only inaccurate, but also short-sighted given the extensive catalog of first and third party games that are coming down the pike, along with the potential that exists with the PlayStation Network,” Karraker concluded.

"Harmonix was founded to create new ways for everyone to experience the pleasure and satisfaction that comes from playing music. Our work on Guitar Hero was an instrumental step toward that goal," stated Alex Rigopulos, co-founder and CEO of Harmonix. "But Rock Band is Harmonix’s most ambitious project to date, and it will take music gameplay to an entirely new level. MTV has given us the freedom and the resources to really swing for the fences and make the game we’ve always wanted to make." Read the rest of this entry »

The anticipated battle between Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 has become a sideshow to the unexpected rise of Nintendo's Wii as the new-generation game console of choice. Once a dark-horse contender, the Wii has outsold both its competitors in recent months. According to sales data from the NPD Group, the Wii sold 335 000 units in February to the Xbox 360's 228 000 and the PS3's 127 000. Read the rest of this entry »

The big news for most this week will probably be the fact that classic Nintendo 64 shooter Star Fox 64 has finally made the pilgrimage from the ESRB's ratings page to the Wii Shop Channel. But if Fox McCloud and his ragtag crew of cuddly wingmen aren't your cup of tea, you can always go with turtles (of the Teenage Mutant Ninja variety, of course) or Dragon's Curse, which sports a lizard-man as the main character (at least initally). Sorry, couldn't think of anything witty for that one. Read the rest of this entry »

It will take a while for it to pass the XBox 360's sales, and the PS3 will do well in the long run, making for something much closer to a three-way split than the PlayStation slamdunk of the last generation. But Wii has and will continue to "DS" this market, and the only thing that will stop it is if Nintendo fails to release must-have titles in the coming years.
Why? Because the Wii is sold by what you do with it, not what it is. As long as this remains the case, Nintendo will continue to spew these out and still be unable to keep store shelves stocked.

Ending months of speculation, Sega announced today that NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams will be released on the Wii this fall. The most interesting element of the Shivering Isles is the fact that it’s basically one land that has been split in two, mirroring the disturbed mind of the Mad God. The Mania side is bright and colorful, featuring trippy, gigantic mushrooms and rolling hills. Dementia, on the other hand, is a dark swamp populated by fish-like creatures and covered in gnarled trees. The two areas stand in stark contrast to each other, and your missions will take you into both of them. The characters in each are widely different, too, particularly the Duke of Mania and the Duchess of Dementia, both of whom you’ll be dealing with frequently.

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 has apparently been ported to the Wii and will be available from June 25th at US$29.99 (roughly AU$47.00). The claim comes following a listing on the site detailing the item's existence despite no previous announcements being made by Capcom. Mysteriously, the listing has since vanished from the site but GoNintendo managed to obtain a print screen as proof. Read the rest of this entry »

A top US Microsoft executive has dismissed Nintendo’s Wii console as a child’s toy. This follows an attack on the PlayStation 3 by a Microsoft UK executive earlier in the week. John Rodman, group product manager for the Xbox platform and Xbox Live, told the New York Times that the Wii is essentially for children, while that Xbox 360 is for serious gamers. “We don’t feel like the Wii customer and the Xbox customer are the same thing. We think that as soon as the Wii customer turns 14 they want something else,” said Rodman. Read the rest of this entry »
