Posted on Mar 08 2007 1:45 AM by Steve

Microsoft has quietly released a fix for a security vulnerability that could let Xbox 360 owners run their own applications or operating systems on the console.

The update corrects a problem with a tamper-protection mechanism on the Xbox 360. Hackers had discovered a way to break through the shield and run their own software, including operating systems such as Linux, on the games console. Microsoft released a patch to fix a vulnerability, and that vulnerability is that someone could have Choice...more click on heading

Here is the Wii Story
Posted on Mar 07 2007 12:33 AM by Steve

Before the Wii launched, financial analysts, such as Merrill Lynch, expected the system to retail for $199, maybe even less. The trouble with that wild guessing was Nintendo never had a reason to sell the Wii for less than $249 - its current price. With a bottom-end Xbox 360 selling for $299 and a new PlayStation 3 landing on the shelves starting at $499, Nintendo can sell a machine for anything less than 300 bucks and have consumers look at the purchase as a real gaming deal.

"Wii Play" shows up months after the console's launch to prove the point. For $49, you get nine little games packaged with one extra controller. Anyone who has played the Wii knows that the system shows its best face when a roomful of people get together and enjoy some multiplayer fun...more click on heading

European PS3 to have inferior backwards compatibility compared to North American and Japanese models

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced that the PlayStation 3 to be launched in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australasia on March 23, 2007 will utilize a “new hardware specification.” Presumably, the new specification will differ from all the currently released PlayStation 3 consoles launched in Japan and North America.

In a press release issued by SCEE, the company describes the main features of the system that are common knowledge, and adds that the Euro-spec machine “also embodies a new combination of hardware and software emulation which will enable PS3 to be compatible with a broad range of original PlayStation titles and a limited range of PlayStation 2 titles.” ...more click on heading

Microsoft's now-veteran-like Xbox 360 arrived in December 2005 and Nintendo's motion-detecting Wii topped Christmas wish lists a few months ago. The question, now, is which one's best? ...more click on heading

Posted on Feb 15 2007 1:22 AM by Steve
