Microsoft's Xbox Live online gaming network has hit 6 million unique
users; a milestone the company says it reached 4 full months ahead of
schedule.
The service allows users with the Xbox gaming console, or its newer
version the Xbox 360, to play over the internet. It also features a
marketplace to purchase "arcade" games, TV shows, videos and other
downloadable content.
According to Microsoft, there are over 160 high-definition video games

An anonymous hacker claims to have uncovered a critical security flaw in the software that runs Microsoft's Xbox 360 that could allow a users or attacker to take over control of the system.
Microsoft has acknowledged the vulnerability and issued a patch on January 9. The hacker had demonstrated the vulnerability late December, but only now provided details on how to exploit the flaw on Wednesday on the Full Disclosure security email list...more click on heading

With the PS3 launch a mere three weeks away, the details are starting to flood the Internet and magazines. Sony UK has now confirmed the price range for downloadable Network titles, and it's slightly different than the rest of Europe. But don't worry; the prices are to be expected, for the most part.
Games will retail on the Store for between £1.99 (2.99 Euros)and £6.99 (9.99 Euros). At this point, Sony has already nailed down prices for Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection ((£6.99) and Blast Factor (£3.49), both of which will be sitting pretty on the virtual Store shelves for the system's launch on March 23. PAL gamers will also have the Gran Turismo HD Concept demo on that day, with flOw hitting on April 6, Go! Sudoku on April 13, and Go! Puzzle on April 20...more click on heading

Unfortunately for Star Wars fans, Lucasarts have confirmed that the upcoming release of The Force Unleashed will not be the Wiimote-powered lightsaber game that many Nintendo fans have been clamoring for. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) executive vice president, Phil Harrison, has hinted that movie downloads may be available soon for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) console. The PS3 Cell processor is going to be at least partially outsourced by Sony...and it's a good thing. Sony Executive Deputy President Yutaka Nakagawa said that the company's investment in allocated in chips ($3.8 billion) would come down substantially due to the strategic move.

Greg Canessa, the head of Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade business, has decided to leave the company to join casual game developer PopCap Games.
Canessa, a 15-year game industry veteran, was the business development manager who dreamed up the Xbox Live Arcade business and pitched it to J Allard and Bill Gates. They signed off on it a few years ago and did a test run on the original Xbox...more click on heading

Activision believes that in the 2007 calendar year the Xbox 360 will sell five million units compared to four million for PS3 and Wii.
