This Haze interview is Korn-y
Posted on May 06 2008 9:24 AM by Aziz

You haven't heard? Korn has a new song for the upcoming PS3 FPS, Haze. (Haven't seen it? Watch it here.) Surprisingly, the interview is very mellow, and goes into how the band was "inspired" by money the game's unique story of revenge.

Bison is back for Street Fighter IV
Posted on May 01 2008 2:27 AM by Aziz

Bison is one tough guy. He cannot be stopped, can he? Like a cockroach (on steroids) that can't be stomped out he's survived numerous close calls. Think back, he's toughed out Ken and Ryu's dual hadoukens in the animated movie. Even more devastating, he went through the horror of Jean-Claude Van Damme's butchery of Guile. But now, the criminal overlord somehow miraculously survived Street Fighter II and will make a return to Street Fighter IV.

WarDevil returns in first new trailer in two years
Posted on May 01 2008 2:25 AM by Aziz

Remember WarDevil? Don't blame yourself if you don't -- the last anyone saw of this PS3 exclusive was in E3 2006. Now, this game from the dudes at Digi-Guys has a brand new trailer. It's mysterious, and doesn't reveal much, but it reminds us that this game is still in development. We want to know more about this title, but don't be surprised if we have to wait until this year's E3 to find out anything of substance.

Wal-Mart Starts Checking IDs
Posted on May 01 2008 1:49 AM by Aziz

Because of its ESRB-sanctioned 'M' for Mature rating, Wal-Mart developed a new policy when Grand Theft Auto III hit store shelves. The family friendly company required cashiers to check IDs whenever someone wanted to buy a copy, prohibiting anyone under the age 17 from walking away with Rockstar's PS2 release. The policy still holds strong today. In fact, other stores, such as GameStop, Target and Best Buy, soon after instated their own ID-checking policy.

Reviews: Warriors Orochi
Posted on Apr 28 2008 7:00 AM by adnana

Koei's Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors games are incredibly formulaic. If you've played one, you know that each version: a) pitches you, a powerful warrior, against hundreds -- if not thousands -- of generally stupid A.I. opponents; b) contains loads of glorified historical figures; and c) could possibly wear out your controller due to all the button-mashing. Series newcomer Warriors Orochi -- this one on the PSP -- sticks to the same love-it-or-hate-it model, with a few new features that make the experience more enjoyable for longtime Warriors lovers.

The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon

Few games appeal to adults and kids, but The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon could please both audiences. The younger group gets its beloved purple dragon and familiar platforming. The older crowd will like the depth in gameplay; among other changes, Spyro can now fly at any time.

After recently seeing a demo of the game, I was most impressed by its style and art; adults will find a lot of nuance here, too. Spyro mixes a lot of brightness and darkness in its style, reminding me of Fantasia or other old-guard Disney animations. Grasses leaned back as the wind raked over them, in a saccharine outdoor scene. But in another moment, sharp, muted stones matched the danger from an attacking monster.

Grand Theft Auto IV Review

What with GTA IV being the single biggest game release of 2008 there's going to be a lot of reviews and opinions out there vying for your attention. So in this 360-centric appraisal we're doing things a little differently - cutting the fluff that surrounds most reviews and getting to what matters.

Like: What's new? What are the weapons like? How do the cars handle? What's the story? What are the best missions? How good a location is the high-def Liberty City?

Assault Heroes 2 blows up XBLA on May 14
Posted on Apr 26 2008 2:24 PM by adnana

Wanako's Assault Heroes would have been one of our most cherished bits of Xbox Live Arcade entertainment had one key element -- online gameplay -- not been so broken so as to only be recognizable by its dental records. Even so, we are forgiving sorts, and when news came down that the developer planned to try its hands at the game once more with a sequel this spring, we figured why not. If He-Man and ABC After School Specials taught us one thing, it's that everyone deserves a second chance.

"Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2" pushed to 2009
Posted on Apr 22 2008 1:10 PM by adnana

Despite Activision's early claims of mass-Marvel action in 2008, it appears that the sequel to Marvel Ultimate Alliance won't be hitting shelves this year, after all. The delay is possibly an attempt to avoid dividing sales between the title and Spiderman: Web of Shadows, which is due out this fall.

PS3 Limitations Held MGS4 Back
Posted on Apr 21 2008 7:19 AM by adnana

Metal Gear Solid 4 has production values that transcend the existing model for videogames, but creator Hideo Kojima says PS3 restrictions meant his team was unable to deliver the graphical punch he’d envisioned.

Forget Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm and, maybe, even Killzone 2. Since the Tokyo Game Show of 2005, MGS4 has been the champion of PlayStation 3, full of promises about the Cell CPU, ready to prove that the power of PlayStation, even after that rollercoaster of a launch, should still not be underestimated. A true third party exclusive – the team won’t be drawn into talk of a 360 version, they’re “fed up with being asked” – it’s widely expected to be the proverbial ‘killer app’.

GTA IV DLC may include entirely new cities
Posted on Apr 20 2008 7:13 AM by adnana

We're vehement followers of the logic that if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is -- still, in cases like these, that doesn't stop us from wishing and hoping hard enough to make our noses bleed. The latest, Microsoft-endorsed, Grand Theft Auto IV special edition issue of Computer and Video Games magazine suggests that the 360 DLC is to the perfect scoring GTA IV as "Vice City or San Andreas were [to] GTA III," and later, in simpler terms, "Rockstar is clearly hinting at new downloadable cities" for the title.
