Wii goes short in the UK

The demand for Wii is high in the UK, and the quantities are very, very low. Three months after its launch, Nintendo's latest console is facing serious shortages in the UK, with many major retailers, such as HMV and GAME, being left empty handed.
Out of twenty retailers surveyed, only one, a Toys R Us in Bristol, had the console in stock. In addition, stores that have been receiving consistent Wii shipments claim to only get in two or three units at a time, and many locations are still working hard to dole out systems to people who pre-ordered them before launch.
A representative of Nintendo stated, "The sheer level of demand for Wii over the launch period was something that no one could have anticipated. While we were certainly very well prepared for a good launch the level of demand we saw, and continue to see in the New Year, remains very high." The representative also said, "We are continuing to make multiple and regular shipments across the UK to ensure that we keep up with demand."
